Why does the vent clog again a few months after cleaning?

Usually because something is broken, not dirty. The common culprit is the transition behind the dryer. Postwar ranches on short exterior-wall runs got 4-inch flexible foil. Push the dryer back and it kinks flat against the wall, down to about two inches of clearance. Lint stacks there. Repair means rigid metal and room to breathe.

Condo and townhome closets are the hard ones. Twenty-plus feet of concealed horizontal duct, joints fastened with screws that snag lint. Foil tape and a properly lapped joint fix that. If the run is buried in a fire-rated assembly, opening drywall may not be justified. Cleaning more often is the honest answer, especially May through September, when marine-layer damp cements lint to the duct walls.
